1.  About CUMT

Located in the famous historical city of Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT: http://www.cumt.edu.cn/) is one of the key national university under the direct administration of China Ministry of Education. Founded in 1909, CUMT is a well- known university with a focus on energy sciences and technology. It is listed among the nation’s “211 Project”; a government program designed to support and improves top-level institutions of higher learning in China. It is also a school under the Chinese Government Scholarship Program. After over one century’s growth, a multidisciplinary system has emerged at CUMT, which focuses on mining engineering and gives priority to engineering disciplines among liberal arts, management, law and economics. In recent years, CUMT has been strengthening international exchanges and cooperation with partners throughout the world. Now it has established academic links with nearly 50 universities and research institutions. Students enjoy colorful campus life, both CUMT man’s and woman’s basketball teams have won for many times the golden medals in the Chinese University Basketball Association (CUBA) games. CUMT has a total student body of over 40,000, among whom about 200 are overseas students. CUMT covers an area of 300 hectares with an efficient layout, complete infrastructure, stylish architecture, a state-of-the-art information network, picturesque settings and pleasant environs. The apartment for overseas students is well-equipped with TV, Air-conditioner, telephone, internet access and bathroom and so on.

3. Costs of Self-support International Students Studying in China

Entry fee：200RMB

Tuition fee：1. Chinese Language Study: 10,000RMB/school year

           2. Bachelor’s degree: 13,800-14,600RMB/school year

           3. Master’s degree: 15,400-16,200RMB/school year

           4. Doctoral degree: 17,000RMB/school year

Teaching materials: around 300 RMB/school year

Accommodation: 1,500 -6,000 RMB/school year

Medical insurance: 600RMB/school year

4. Teaching language

The teaching language is Chinese only. CUMT provides one-year Chinese language study. Student can start major study after he meets the Chinese language requirements of CUMT.

CUMT Admission Requirements for International Students

All eligible international students who are willing to study at CUMT should fill in International Students Application Form and send this from and other application materials to International College. The application form can be downloaded from the website of International College, CUMT (http://sac.cumt.edu.cn/). The details are as follows:

Admission Requirements and Materials Submitted:

1. Short-term Chinese Language Training

All applicants should have graduated from high school or above, aged between 18 and 50, and should be healthy.

Materials required:

One Copy of Diploma/Degree accompanied by English Translation

Copy of valid passport

When to Apply:

In the beginning of September-----at the end of December (Spring Semester)

In the beginning of March-----at the end of June (Fall Semester)

The number of applicants will be considered if it is possible open short-term Chinese Language Training program every year.

2. Pre-University Chinese Language Training

All applicants should have graduated from high school or above, aged between 18 and 50, and should be healthy.

When to Apply:

15th, March-----15th, June

The program starts at the beginning of September. The duration is one year.

 3.  General Advanced Student

Applicants should be at least college graduates, aged between 20 and 50 and in good health.

One Copy of Diploma/Degree accompanied by English Translation

One Curriculum Vitae/Resume (in Chinese or English)

Letters of Recommendation from Two Professors (in Chinese or English)

Copy of valid passport

When to Apply:

15th, March-----15th, June

 4.  Senior Advanced Student

Applicants should have obtained a master’s degree or have earned the equivalent to a Chinese master’s degree, and will conduct research in a certain filed under the guidance of a supervisor. Applicants should be above the age of 20 and below the age of 50 and in good health.

Applicants must be above the age of 18 and have attained a high school diploma. Application materials required:

Applicants must have obtained a master’s degree or have earned the equivalent to a Chinese master’s degree and are above the age of 20 and below the age of 50 and in good health.

Note:

If applicants are yet to reach our HSK requirements, they can learn Chinese language for around one year and study majors they applied afterward.

Applicants with academic work in progress who are expecting their diploma or degree should complete a degree program before the intended date of enrollment at CUMT and must provide evidence of degree conferral and a final academic transcript as soon as it is available.

All application materials can be sent by email, but applicants must bring the original or hard copy of materials required when they register at CUMT. Supplementary material may be required. Whatever the application is accept or not, materials will be not returned.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cost

 If you are admitted by CUMT, our staff will contact you and you will receive the following materials:

Admission Letter of CUMT, Accommodation Application Form of CUMT and JW202 Form issued by the State Education Commission of the People’s Republic of China.

After you receive the materials mentioned above, please go through the following procedures:

1、Applying for Chinese visa to Chinese Embassy or Consulate to your country with your admission letter and JW202 form. Please apply for “X” visa if you will stay in China for more than one month; please apply for “L” or “X” visa if you will stay in China for less than one month.

2、Getting Foreigner Physical Examination Form from Chinese Embassy or Consulate to your country and doing physical examination at the designated hospital. You should bring the original Foreigner Physical Examination Form when you come to China.

 

Scholarship for International Students

China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT)

 1. Categories of Scholarship

CUMT provides scholarships for international students who intend to study at CUMT to cover all or part of tuition fees, housing, health insurance and living costs.

Class A: 10,000 RMB per year for Chinese Language student, 20,000 RMB per year for Bachelor student, 22,000 RMB for Master student and 24,000 RMB for Doctoral student.

Class B: 8,000 RMB per year for Chinese Language student and Bachelor students, 9,000 RMB for Master student and 10,000 RMB for Doctoral student.

For Chinese Language student who intend to study for an academic degree afterwards is allowed to apply CUMT scholarship and the support duration is one year only . The Language student who gains the scholarship has to sign the contract with CUMT at the same time. The student has to make compensation, by convention, if he/she drop out or transfer due to personal excuse. The scholarship is open to continuous application for bachelor, master and doctoral students year by year during the normal schooling length.

50% applicants can get the scholarship.

 2. Requirements

    1) Applicant has to meet the criteria of CUMT admission requirement and be healthy.

    2) Applicant should observe all the laws of China as well as the rules and regulations of CUMT.

    3) Applicant’s academic transcript of average score is above 75 out of 100.

    4) Two recommendation letters from two professors or experts who can comment on your character, academic performance, and your seriousness of purpose.

    5) Sponsored students or students with a full assistantship or fellowship are not eligible.

 3. Application Documents

   1) Application Form of CUMT Scholarship for International Students

   2) Study plan in China

   3) Statement of family incomes in Chinese or English.

   4) Admission application materials:

• International Student Application Form
• Physical Examination Record for Foreigner
• Identification Card or Copy of valid passport

   5) Apply for Bachelor Degree: high school transcript and copy of High School diploma; or high school transcript, college academic transcript, enrollment certificate, two recommendation letters, and other certificates.

Apply for Master Degree: university transcript, copy of bachelor degree certificate, two recommendation letters, other academic certificate and achievements.

Apply for Doctor Degree: bachelor and master academic transcripts, copy of master degree certificate, two recommendations letters, other academic award certificate and achievements.

Note: All the academic transcripts mentioned above has to be original official in Chinese or English. Materials in languages other than Chinese or English shall be notarized in Chinese or English.

 4. Program Duration and Scholarship Renewal

   1) The duration of degree studies for Bachelor degree  is 4-5 years (including one-year Chinese language study), for Master and Doctoral degree is 3 years separately.

   2) All courses are taught in Chinese.

   3) The scholarships are renewable according to annual comprehensive evaluation of students by CUMT. It is required that there is no course fail and the academic transcript of average score is above 75 out of 100 or rank top 50% in all international students at CUMT.

 5. Procedures and Deadline

   1) Applicants can download and fill in the application form from the website of CUMT.

   2) Applicants must apply for the scholarship before June 20th.  

   3) Any incomplete or invalid application will be rejected.

   4) All the writing in the form should be in print form and be with your personal signature. Applicants must send all the required documents by post to the mailing address (or express mail).

   5) The application materials will not be returned regardless of the result of application.

   6) Scholarship is used to pay tuition and housing fees, student has to afford the shortage if any. The rest of the scholarship will transfer to student’s bank account monthly (except February and August).
